Dear Frankie,
Being adopted by a single Mum doesn’t mean that you will automatically grow up and become a single adopter like me.
Being raised by a single Mum who fell in love with another kind, caring and committed woman doesn’t automatically mean you will do the same.
I didn’t choose to be gay Frankie but I did choose to be in a loving relationship with your Mum.
That was a choice I made.
I get why your friends ask the question ‘If you have gay parents, does that mean you will be gay?’
I saw my Mum and Dad in a loving, committed relationship that lasted till the day they died.
It didn’t make me straight, but it did make me think.
It made me think about long lasting love and commitment and yes, I wanted that.
Relationships come in all different shapes and forms. Only you can decide the love that’s right for you.
And it starts with self love.
You have to love yourself with all your heart and when you do, the right person will eventually come along.
You don’t need to go searching for love, love finds us, that’s how love works.
We are all hard wired for connection it’s in all our individual DNA.
Live a life you are proud of my love and only ever share it with someone who loves you just the way you are.
Forever yours,
Mum x
