School has never been an easy ride for Frankie.
She’s always had to try hard to navigate the National Curriculum in her own unique way.
With a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder last year, the education system is finally catching up.
Yesterday Frankie called me from school to say she had taken a test in Modern Foreign Languages (ironically enough, her favourite subject) and told me, she had moved up a level.
Being in a foundation grouping and always striving to, at the very least keep up, she is excelling and meeting above expectations in MFL.
Her face last night was a picture when she came through the front door. Mine and Jen’s were too, we were so happy for her, this is a massive achievement, one of which she can use as a bench mark to propel her confidence in mainstream learning even further.
Her biggest inspiration for MFL is Senor Max, who volunteered to tutor Frankie on line while she was being homeschooled after an unresolved child on child assault in Year 2.
The School had let her down terribly, I am still waiting for an admittance of accountability after Senior Management had falsified an ‘incident form.’
Frankie eventually moved on after helping to bring changes to the way in which incidents are recorded and dealt with. Making the school a safer place for her friends. The next primary school that welcomed her was like a breath of fresh air.
Senor Max to the rescue too however and since his wonderful way with Frankie and his genuine belief in her abilities, she is now thriving. Spanish, French… there’s no stopping her now,
DLD or not.
